Spring Independent School District special services leaders reported on April 1 that middle-school students receiving special education services made measurable growth this year while third-grade growth rates fell as enrollment of students eligible for services increased.
Dr. Lebron, presenting the update for special education and Section 504 programs, told trustees that eighth-grade students meeting their growth goals on the district’s NWEA MAP assessments rose from about 46% to 51% year to date, while the percentage of third graders meeting growth goals moved from roughly 50% in 2023–24 to about 43% in the current year. The presentation emphasized that the percentage fell even as the absolute number of third graders meeting growth goals increased because the district’s special education enrollment grew.
