Bureau of Street Services details sweeping optimization plan; warns of staffing, equipment and community‑engagement costs

The Bureau of Street Services told a Los Angeles City Council committee at a special meeting that it has begun a phased street‑sweeping optimization intended to improve cleanliness and efficiency but that the work will require additional staff, equipment and community engagement to expand posted sweeping citywide.
Prashant Konaredi of the bureau's Advanced Planning Group said the bureau manages roughly 14,000 curb miles; about 4,700 miles (34%) are currently on posted sweeping routes, about 1,600 miles (11%) are AM routes, and roughly 7,700 miles (55%) are open routes without enforceable parking restrictions.
