Auburn School Committee approves consent agenda and 2025–26 school calendar; enters executive session for labor talks

The Auburn School Committee approved several procedural items and a 2025–26 school calendar and then voted to enter executive session to discuss labor contract negotiations at its April 2, 2025 meeting.

The committee first approved the consent agenda, which included the meeting agenda and the minutes from the March 26, 2025 meeting. A member identified as Warren moved the consent agenda and Corrine Quinn seconded; the chair announced “All those in favor? Motion carries.” No roll-call vote or tally was recorded in the public record.

The committee then considered and adopted the Auburn School Department 2025–26 school calendar. The motion to approve the calendar was moved and seconded (second by Pam Hart, Ward 2); the committee discussed alignment with the regional LRTC calendar, early-release professional development Wednesdays, and holiday scheduling. The superintendent noted the calendar is a regional calendar with up to five days that can differ across the region and that an additional teacher workshop day on June 17 should be added to the published calendar. The committee also confirmed that religious-holiday absences are excused for students (and staff) and that the calendar provides for three traditional snow days; after those three days, further closures will be handled as remote learning days. The motion passed by voice vote: “All those in favor of approving the Auburn School Department 20 five-twenty 6 school calendar? Motion carries.” No roll-call tally was provided.

Later the committee voted to enter executive session “pursuant to 1 MRSA, 405-sixty” for the purpose of labor contract negotiations. The motion to enter executive session was moved and seconded by Corrine Quinn (mover/second as stated); the chair called the vote and announced the committee was entering executive session. The committee did not disclose the details of the negotiations in open session.

Upcoming meetings noted by the committee included a city council budget workshop at which school budget information will be presented; the superintendent clarified that the workshop is not a joint meeting requiring the school committee’s attendance but members were welcome to attend.
