The Henniker School Board unanimously approved a revised student technology procedure, JICL-R, updating the district’s responsible-use language to reflect federal regulations and contemporary issues such as AI and COPPA protections.
"We included a reference to AI," the presenter said, noting the procedure asks students to cite AI where used and follow teacher guidance. The policy also clarifies filtering and monitoring expectations; staff said monitoring is limited to school-issued accounts and devices and that the district follows statutory procedures for investigating complaints such as cyberbullying.
Board members also approved a consent agenda that included re-adoptions and revisions to several policies. Revisions highlighted during the meeting included updated service-animal language aligned with changes in law and a revised class-size policy that replaced fixed maximums with guidance and flexibility to address programmatic needs. The board discussed the need to keep flexibility in class-size limits rather than hard caps, and staff said classroom-space and budget constraints would continue to inform staffing decisions.
The board approved the technology procedure and the consent-agenda items by voice vote. Members asked staff to circulate the updated policies and to ensure the athletic-eligibility policy (discussed separately) receives additional review before adoption.
