City staff and meeting participants reported multiple parks and recreation updates, including a planned Harris Park remodel, a forthcoming mobile veterinary clinic that will run twice a month beginning in June, continuing drop‑in basketball and volleyball programs, and open registration for the Guadalupe Bulldogs football and cheer programs.
Staff said the Harris Park remodel is moving forward; a ribbon‑cutting invitation was mentioned for a nearby housing project that includes a community center and outdoor courts. A meeting speaker described the site as having a central park area and basketball courts on the outside.
Separately, staff described an agreement to host a mobile veterinary clinic starting in June with two visits per month. Organizers said the clinic treats sick animals and alternates locations; early sessions drew roughly 20 people at some stops and up to about 50 at others. A follow‑up clinic was scheduled for May 16, and staff said they will continue the twice‑monthly schedule beginning in June.
Recreation volunteers reported that Friday drop‑in basketball has a strong following and that volleyball programming is also active. Volunteers praised the reach of these programs for a broad age range and described them as valuable community fitness options.
Meeting participants also discussed event scheduling: several nonprofit partners raised concerns about asking the same vendors or performers to participate in multiple events (for example, a bike‑related community event and Cinco de Mayo) on a short timeline. Staff said they will consider smaller activities for this year and plan further in advance next year to avoid redundancy and reduce burden on local groups.
Community groups announced open registration for Guadalupe Bulldogs football and cheerleading, and organizers noted the Bulldogs will hold a 20th‑anniversary Bulldog Gala on Sept. 28. Volunteers said registration information and contact details are available on the Bulldogs' website.
At the close of the meeting, a motion to adjourn was made and seconded; the meeting was adjourned.
