Commission approves channel-letter sign for Touch d Salon in multi-tenant building

The New Rochelle Municipal Arts Commission on April 2 approved a channel-letter sign for Touch d Salon, a tenant in a multi-tenant storefront band, after questions about vertical alignment with neighboring signs and legibility considerations.

The application was presented by Michael Santo Lucredo, who identified himself as a signmaker representing the tenant and described materials and mounting: "We're following suit with the white channel letters, within the sign band, same projection, black hand, white faces," he said. He added the letter "d" includes a gold element to match the tenant’s branding and noted the sign’s face-channel construction and remote power supplies behind the wall.

Commissioners raised concerns that the proposed sign read lower than adjacent signs because of a horizontal architectural line in the building’s sign band. The applicant said the medical spa tenant’s thinner lettering required adjustments for legibility and that the sign was sized to accommodate the building’s existing line and the tenant’s font. He said the proposed sign height is about 45 inches with a 4-inch topper on the letter "d." The applicant and commissioners discussed whether moving the sign up or down would create legibility conflicts with neighboring tenants (Tostique and Taco Project were named in the discussion). The applicant said project constraints included prior tenants’ signage, the landlord’s preferences and fabrication limits.

After discussion about alignment and tradeoffs, the commission voted to approve the application; the transcript records "Aye" and "Motion passes," with no roll-call tally shown.
