Commission approves façade sign for Kenny’s on the Water at 28 Pelham Road

The New Rochelle Municipal Arts Commission on April 2 approved an application to install a new illuminated façade sign for Kenny’s on the Water at 28 Pelham Road, in the former Patsy’s Pizzeria space.

Ray Russo, identified in the agenda as the applicant, described the sign as a custom metal push-through channel-letter design intended to improve visibility on a sharp turn: "we are proposing to install a main sign for Kenny's on the water, which was previously Patsy's pizzeria," the applicant said. He told the commission the new sign moves slightly toward the corner and is intended to be more legible approaching the turn.

The applicant said the sign will be backlit with white letters and a translucent metallic gold element and that the installation includes a plumb backer plate to accommodate existing slatted siding. He said the sign is roughly 4 feet in height (the design includes a 48-inch circular element with additional 4–6 inch letter bump-outs yielding about 52 inches of width) and the bottom of the sign will sit about 36 inches above the walkway. The sign projects approximately six inches from the wall (five-inch cabinet with a one-inch spacer) and will produce a slight halo glow on the wall at night.

Commission discussion focused on sightlines, relative size compared with the previous Patsy’s sign and coordination with refinished siding. The applicant noted the previous sign measured about 38 by 54 inches and that visibility at the turn was limited. After questions, the commission moved to approve the application; the transcript records a voice vote of "Aye" and "Motion passes," with no roll-call recorded.
