Chair Bennett, presiding over the House Education Policy Committee, moved adoption of the DE amendment to House File 1306 and the committee approved the amendment and an oral correction that deletes section 9 (article 7) of the bill. The committee then voted to recommend HF1306, as amended, to be re-referred to the General Register.
Nonpartisan staff member Ms. Carroll told the committee that HF1306 (the governor's policy bill) included two provisions amending sections in chapter 13 and that those changes were cross-referenced in section 127A.21, subdivision 6. Carroll said language intended for section 3 (identified in the transcript as proposed 13.32.11 and 13.82) had not been included in the DE1 and that the oral amendment would delete the affected section.
Committee members adopted the oral amendment as described by staff and then renewed the motion to send HF1306, as amended, to the General Register with direction that staff make any necessary technical corrections. The committee approved the motion by voice vote; the transcript records only voice votes and does not provide a roll-call tally.
The action completed committee business on the governor's policy bill; staff were directed to make technical corrections as needed before the bill proceeds to the next step in the House process.
