Committee hears narrow bill clarifying county clerk public-records fee authority

The Senate Rules Committee received testimony on House Bill 3385, a technical measure that would tie public records fees for documents filed with county clerks to an existing statutory county clerk fee schedule.
Rochelle Long, Klamath County clerk and member of the Oregon Association of County Clerks, said the bill simply adds a cross-reference in statute to make the fee schedule applicable and clear for public-record requests involving recorded documents. "All fees will remain the same under this bill," Long said.
Tom Powers of Multnomah County echoed support and noted the House passed the bill unanimously in committee and by a large margin on the House floor. He urged the Senate committee to move the bill forward.
Committee members did not take a vote during the hearing. Supporters described the bill as a clarifying statutory change that would not change existing charges.
