Chesterfield County schedules multi-day litter cleanup; Palmetto Pride to supply materials, sheriff to add cameras in hotspots

A county volunteer representing Palmetto Pride urged the Chesterfield County Council on April 1 to designate an early-May period for a countywide litter cleanup and described plans for supplies, convenience-center disposal and targeted enforcement in high-trash locations.
"We have got the county litter day set for May," the volunteer, identified as Jane, told the council and recommended a multi-day collection window so residents unable to attend a single day could still participate. Jane said Palmetto Pride would furnish bags, pick-up sticks, gloves, vests and tarps and that convenience centers would accept the trash bags for free during the event window.
She said magistrate John Davis is coordinating a community-service program for nonviolent offenders and that some council members had already identified particularly trash-strewn roads for assignment. Jane also said Palmetto Pride has been working with the sheriff's department to place cameras in unnamed locations to deter repeat dumping; she described one dirt road with as many as 32 small dump sites that include discarded tires.
Council members thanked her and encouraged town-level participation. One council member noted the county's festival season and thanked public-works staff for cleanup efforts; another asked that towns be encouraged to set their own litter days during the period.

Organizers asked council members to promote the cleanup to their towns and said Palmetto Pride will provide supplies and designated bag colors for easy identification at convenience centers. The county did not adopt a formal resolution at the meeting; the volunteer requested the council's support and coordination.
