Tonawanda council adopts three routine resolutions; mayor honors Touch of Italy, announces spring events

At a City of Tonawanda Common Council meeting (date not specified), council members approved three routine resolutions, including acceptance of the council minutes from March 18, 2025, and the waiving of readings for two agenda items, council records show.

The actions took place with minimal debate. Resolution No. 1, sponsored by Council Member Sheasley, formally accepted the minutes of the March 18 meeting. The motion to accept was seconded by Council Member Raumstrow and the roll call recorded Council Member Sheasley, Council Member Raumstrow and Council President Cook voting aye; the resolution was declared adopted.

Council members also voted to waive the readings of Resolutions 2 and 3 after a motion by Council Member Raumstrow and a second by Council Member Sheasley. The clerk called the roll and the waiver was declared adopted. Resolution 2, sponsored by Council Member Rob Strow, and Resolution 3, sponsored by Council Member Sheasley, were subsequently brought up, seconded and declared adopted after routine roll-call votes recorded in the meeting transcript.

Mayor Weiss used the meeting to present the inaugural Mayor Weiss Beautification certificate to Touch of Italy, a restaurant at 630 Delaware Avenue in Tonawanda, praising the business for maintaining “clean, trim” landscaping and a well-kept parking area. “If the business looks good, we look good,” Mayor Weiss said, adding he planned to deliver the certificate to owner Louie the following day.

During the public-comment portion, a speaker who said they were presenting an application for a bike event along the river asked city staff about potential concerns; the clerk indicated staff would review the event application and follow up with questions. Council members and staff also fielded brief comments from a resident who identified himself as the building inspector/superintendent, saying his questions about Linwood trees and houses had been answered.

Council Member Raumstrow noted local broadband activity, telling the council he had seen installation trucks for GreenLake Networks and recommending residents explore the new high-speed internet option as competition for Spectrum. Mayor Weiss outlined upcoming community programming and services, saying Ready Bikes are “up and running” at the hub and along the river, and reminding residents of an Easter egg hunt at Veterans Park beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and an electronics recycling event the same Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Tonawanda High School parking lot. The mayor also said the city was close to finalizing naming-rights sponsorships for the hub and listed several prospective business moves and contract reviews underway with city staff.

The meeting closed with a motion to adjourn that was seconded and approved by voice vote.
