PD Coalition outlines county events for sexual-assault and child-abuse prevention; council issues proclamation

Stacy Short, county coordinator and trauma counselor with PD Coalition's Chesterfield satellite, asked Chesterfield County Council members on April 1 to support local awareness and services for sexual assault and child abuse survivors and described a month of outreach events.
"Over the last, 2024, we served 85 victims of domestic violence and sexual assault throughout Chesterfield satellite center," Short told council members, adding that three advocacy centers served 20 children from the county for child abuse or child sexual abuse in 2024. She said many victims are assaulted by someone they know and emphasized family-centered, trauma-informed approaches.
Short outlined planned outreach: a series of support events for expecting and first-time mothers, a paint-night titled "consent rocks" that will feature survivors and conversations about consent, a candlelight vigil scheduled for 6 p.m. at Morris Park Gazebo in Pageland, and participation in Denim Day on April 30 to raise awareness. She invited PD Coalition to present in churches and civic groups and offered educational materials to the council.
Council members moved and approved a proclamation recognizing the outreach; the motion carried without recorded opposition. "Thank you so much," Short said after the vote.
