The proclamation — read in full at the April 1 meeting and approved by a 3–0 vote — urged residents to learn the signs of abuse and support programs that prevent abuse and strengthen families. The Board recognized the role of local prevention, education and intervention programs in protecting children and families.
Separately, the Board considered and approved a letter of support for Always Community Health Center's tax-credit application. The letter, which the chair was authorized to sign on behalf of the Board, states the county's support for Always Community Health Center's plan to renovate a downtown property at 516 Commercial Street into a 9,300-square-foot medical clinic that would expand primary care, behavioral health and preventive services for uninsured and underserved residents. Commissioners approved the chair signing the letter by unanimous vote (3–0).
The community corrections director attended the proclamation presentation for a photo; staff indicated they would circulate copies of the proclamation and proceed with the letter submission to the Kansas Department of Commerce.
