Marion County proclaims April 7–13 National Public Health Week

The Marion County Board of Commissioners on April 2 approved a proclamation designating April 7–13, 2025, as National Public Health Week in Marion County.
Katie Menina, program coordinator in the Public Health Division of Marion County Health and Human Services, presented a 100-year overview of the county’s public-health programs and asked the board to adopt the proclamation. Menina described early efforts beginning with a 1925 child health demonstration project and traced services through present-day programs including WIC, early childhood nursing, environmental health inspections and the communicable disease team.
The proclamation passed by motion and voice vote. Menina said Marion County Public Health “continues to strive for optimal health just as the first team did 100 years ago.” She noted current services include immunizations, mobile testing and home visits by nursing teams.
The proclamation text adopted by the board highlights the county’s century-long work in maternal and child health, communicable disease prevention, emergency preparedness, environmental health and health-promotion and prevention programs. It directs that the week of April 7–13 be observed as National Public Health Week in Marion County.
County staff and commissioners posed brief questions about historical photos and program details during the presentation. The board held a photo opportunity after the proclamation was read and signed.
