Pike County adopts proclamations for April observances and authorizes multiple contracts and payments

Pike County commissioners on April 2 adopted three proclamations designating April 2025 as National County Government Month, National Child Abuse Prevention Month and Pennsylvania 8-1-1 Safe Digging Month, and approved several administrative payments and contract actions.
The board adopted Resolution No. 25-07 proclaiming April 2025 as National County Government Month and Resolution No. 25-08 declaring April 2025 as National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Commissioner remarks during the child-abuse resolution recognized the county’s Children’s Advocacy Center (Dixon House) and partner organizations.
Sarah (last name not provided), a representative of the Children’s Advocacy Center, spoke after the proclamation and described the center’s services and case counts, saying, “it’s an honor to work here in County and to have the children's advocacy center that we do have.” She said the center saw 67 children last year who came to the center and stated that 38 percent of those were for sexual abuse (transcript redaction). Sarah thanked partner organizations and noted community outreach such as placing pinwheels to represent children served.
A representative of VIP, identified in the meeting as Chelsea, also praised the partnership with Dixon House and announced an upcoming community event: Take Back the Night on April 30 at Black and Brass in Holly, with a guest speaker named Ray Compton.
The commissioners also authorized a contractor payment: a motion to authorize the chairman to execute a contractor's application for payment from Groom Construction in the amount of $59,271.18 for the Bennett Avenue Building 1 interior renovation project was approved. Other approvals and authorizations included: advertising bids for the sale of transportation vehicles; authorizing the chairman to execute the worker protection and investment certification form for the PEP 901 grant on behalf of planning and mapping; authorizing a professional-services contract between Little Playroom and the county on behalf of children with services; authorizing an ICE contract amendment for the correctional facility as recommended by the prison board; authorizing the intermediate punishment plan 2025 on behalf of the correctional facility; and approving human services payment vouchers totaling three line items: $1,321.16 (human service development fund), $1,869.07 (fair), and $16,561.02 (state food purchase program). Most motions passed by voice vote recorded as “Aye.”
State Representative Jeff Olson attended and briefly addressed the board, noting collaboration among county and state agencies.
