The Cathedral City Parks and Community Events Commission voted April 1 to cancel its June, July and August 2025 monthly meetings and reconvene in September to align with the City Council’s summer schedule. Commissioners said the change reduces staff workload and avoids preparing reports during a period when many officials take vacation.
Staff explained City Council recently consolidated summer absences and shifted one meeting around Memorial Day, creating a schedule the commission recommended mirroring. Commissioners said canceling meetings during the summer when agendas tend to be light had been done informally in past years; the motion formalizes the three-month break.
The motion was made by Commissioner Herrera and seconded by Vice Chair Bai Shu. The roll call showed all present commissioners voting yes (4–0). Staff said any urgent matters that arise in June–August can be agendized or reviewed by the city manager and returned to the commission in September; commissioners were advised of the May agenda filing deadlines for items they wish the commission to consider before the summer break.
Commissioners identified several items they plan to bring forward before the break, including a yoga program recap and summer-movie sponsorship details. The cancellation was described as an efficiency move rather than a reduction in services.
