Staff requested an additional design contingency of $114,025 to cover design contingencies and staff contract management time. Funding for the Station 71/EOC design work will come from a Cal OES grant authorized in the FY24‑25 budget; staff proposed Measure I funds for the Centennial Plaza alternate if the council elects to include it.
Council debate and decision: Council discussed timing and sequencing. Staff explained Station 72 design is near completion and the intent is to avoid simultaneous construction on both fire stations; Station 72 is expected to proceed to construction first. Council approved staff recommendation and the design contract amendment (motion passed 5‑0). Council also authorized use of Measure I funds should it approve the Centennial Plaza add‑alternate.
