The City of Taft city council proclaimed April 13–19, 2025, as National Public Safety Telecommunications Week and publicly thanked the city’s dispatch team for their role in emergency response.
Mayor Pro Tem Bryant read the proclamation during the April meeting, noting that the week honors telecommunicators who are often the first point of contact for 911 callers. The proclamation text recognized dispatchers for providing “quality and accuracy of information” that supports police and fire personnel and for exhibiting “compassion, understanding, and professionalism.”
Police Chief McMahon accepted the proclamation on behalf of dispatch staff and named several employees, saying, “These women run our brain of our facility over there. Without them, nothing functions properly.” He described a recent incident in which dispatch directions helped officers set up a perimeter and take a person into custody.
Mayor Noren asked that council members convey the council’s gratitude to dispatchers. “Be sure and relay the gratitude of the entire city council. We know what a critical component they are, and we sincerely appreciate their efforts,” he said.
The proclamation document, as read on the record, states the council’s appreciation and was signed by the five council members present.
The recognition was presented during the open portion of the meeting before routine reports and the consent calendar.
