Council committee recommends Rachel Dotson for City Plan Commission seat

The Providence City Committee on Finance voted to transmit to the full City Council the nomination of Rachel Dotson for a term on the Providence City Plan Commission, replacing a member whose term expired January 31, 2025.
Dotson described herself as a Providence resident since 2013 with a background in real estate and arts. “Being involved in that industry became this kind of immediate emerging course into learning about neighborhoods,” she told the committee, and said she follows and has read the city’s recently updated comprehensive plan.
Committee members asked about Dotson’s familiarity with the comprehensive-plan process and community outreach. She said she had attended outreach events and read the plan and that her experience working with developers and community interests in other cities would help her support Providence’s goals while listening to local needs.
A motion to transmit the nomination to the full council with a favorable recommendation passed by voice vote. The committee scheduled the item for the council agenda on April 17.
