The Cranston City Planning Commission voted to appoint Beth Ashman as the city’s planning director during its April 1 meeting after a subcommittee recommended her for the permanent post.
The commission’s chair said Mr. Pizzullo resigned in January and that Ashman had served as acting planning director while the position was posted and filled. A subcommittee composed of the chair, Vice Chairman Coop and Commissioner Lamphere interviewed Ashman and made a positive recommendation to the full commission.
A motion to appoint Ashman was made from the chair and seconded by Commissioner Mancini; the commission voted in favor. Ashman thanked the commission and said she looked forward to working with staff and commissioners in her new role.
The appointment follows the city’s internal interim arrangement and a formal recruitment process, and brings the acting director into the permanent role without further public hearings or conditions recorded in the meeting.
