Jessica Cure was elected chair of the Twentynine Palms City Planning Commission during the commission's regular meeting. Commissioners held a roll-call vote on a motion to nominate Cure for chair and Alex Garcia for vice chair.
The nomination was made by a commissioner who identified herself as Isabel: "Mister chairman, I would like to make a nomination of, miss Jessica Cure for chairperson and mister Alex Garcia as vice chair... And that's my nomination, Isabel." The nomination received a second and proceeded to a roll-call vote.
Several commissioners recorded their votes in favor. Commissioner Cruchet said, "Oh, I vote yes." Commissioners identified in the roll call as voting yes included Commissioner Bahana, Vice Chair Keiran, and Chair Walker. Commissioners stated that Alex Garcia's acceptance of the vice chair role would determine whether a further election would be necessary: if Garcia declined, the commission said it would hold a separate election for vice chair.
The commission immediately moved forward with the meeting after the vote and began transitioning leadership roles. The planning commission noted that Alex Garcia's acceptance was not finalized on the record and therefore the vice chair position remained contingent.
There were no public comments related to the leadership selection recorded during the public comment period.
