Midvale proclaims June 2025 LGBTQ+ Bridal Month amid state-level uncertainty

Mayor Dustin Gettle and the Midvale City Council unanimously adopted a proclamation on April 1 declaring June 2025 as LGBTQ+ Bridal Month in Midvale.

The proclamation cites the 1969 Stonewall riots and subsequent presidential proclamations expanding recognition of Pride month, and says the designation highlights “awareness of and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community” and Midvale’s commitment to “diversity and inclusivity.” The proclamation was signed by Mayor Gettle and all five council members in attendance.

The proclamation drew public praise from Rep. Andrew Stoddard, who identified himself as a Midvale resident and state legislator. “I just wanna come and applaud all of you for taking a step that I see is largely important for the city and for its constituents,” Stoddard told the council during public comment. “I see the effect that [these bills] have on those that I care about.”

Council members also voiced support during council reports. Council Member Bridal Brown said she was “glad we were able” to adopt the proclamation now given ongoing activity at the state legislature, and Council Member Denise Mikolash thanked the mayor for moving the item forward.

City staff presented the proclamation as a formal statement of the city’s values rather than as a change to law or municipal policy. The resolution text adopted by the council recites historical milestones in LGBTQ+ advocacy, acknowledges local LGBTQ+ residents’ contributions, and declares June 2025 as LGBTQ+ Bridal Month in Midvale City.

The council did not take additional legislative action on the proclamation beyond adoption and signature. Representative Stoddard and multiple council members said the measure is intended as an expression of support for city residents rather than a countermeasure to specific state action.

The council moved on to other business after the proclamation and public comment.
