The Hawaii County Council Committee on Finance on April 1 received and closed a report of donations from the Daniel R. Sayer Memorial Foundation describing equipment, training support and a donated fire engine for the county fire department.
Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Volpe described the foundation—s focus and the nature of the donations: "What you see, represented in this this thousands of dollars of donation, is what represents kinda what the fire department. ... The Sayers, we are so fortunate for them to be able to provide this this equipment to be able to to try things, to see, you know, these are this is our our list of our wants," Volpe said, explaining that the foundation has funded specialized technical-rescue equipment and, in February, donated a new engine that was dedicated in the South Hilo area on Feb. 7.
Volpe told the committee the foundation—s gifting is often focused on technical rescue equipment and training such as rope-rescue systems and related gear and that some travel expenses included in the report related to a pre-con of the new engine. He said some donated items support islandwide delivery through the county—s two rescue companies and training programs.
Council members thanked the foundation and staff. Council Member Inaba moved to close the file on communication 27.2; Council Member Onishi seconded the motion. The clerk recorded nine members in favor; the motion carried.
The committee—s action was to close the file on the donation report and make the record of the donation part of the committee record. The report was transmitted pursuant to Resolution 468-20, per the communication cover note.
