Resident urges better enforcement of abandoned and unregistered vehicles on State Street

Evelyn Hunt, a State Street resident, used the public comment period at the April 8 Harrisburg City Council work session to ask the city to improve parking enforcement practices in her neighborhood.
Hunt told council members she observed vehicles that repeatedly received tickets despite lacking current registrations or inspections and at least one wrecked car and one car with a flat tire that remained on the street. She asked that parking enforcement notify Officer Wells of reportedly abandoned vehicles so they are not subject only to repeated ticketing without follow-up. “These cars don't remain on the street week after week, getting tickets,” she said, asking officers to relay information about abandoned vehicles to the appropriate sergeant.
City council did not take action during the meeting; President Bowers closed public comment after Hunt's remarks and the council adjourned.
