Council appoints four representatives to Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority after objections over notice and turnover

The City Council approved the mayor’s nominations to the Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority (CRRMA) board on Tuesday after a contentious discussion about process and outreach to outgoing members.
The appointments confirmed were Matthew McElroy (position 6), Lina Ortega (position 2), Robert Palacios (position 4) and Monica Perez (position 1). Mayor Renard Johnson said the candidates were recommended following a submission and vetting process; he described several as highly qualified.
Representative Limon criticized the appointment procedure, saying some outgoing members — including local civic leaders — were not notified they would be replaced. He said he had worked with several of the departing appointees and questioned the lack of a thank-you letter or formal outreach. The mayor and other council members said the terms had ended and the mayor appropriately exercised his appointment authority, and they defended the qualifications of the new nominees.
Representative Acevedo made the motion to confirm all four; the motion was seconded and, after discussion, passed by a 6–1 roll-call vote. Representative Limon cast the lone no vote; one member was absent.
Council did not alter the CRRMA’s statutory structure or the board’s authorities in the action. Appointees will serve per CRRMA rules and any future council confirmations required by board bylaws.
