Commissioners instruct staff to restore Grants Pass Daily Courier as newspaper of record and solicit advisory-board applicants

Josephine County commissioners instructed staff to prepare a board order to designate the Grants Pass Daily Courier as the county’s newspaper of record for publications and notices and to solicit public comment on that designation.

Commissioner Barnett moved to designate the Grants Pass Daily Courier for county notices and asked staff to prepare a board order for signature. Commissioners agreed to receive public comment on the designation; staff said the item could be placed on a consent calendar for the weekly business session or as a board order to appear in a full weekly meeting. Commissioners directed staff to proceed with the board order preparation.

Separately, staff and commissioners discussed reconstituting county advisory boards and committees. The airports advisory board had been dissolved and staff solicited applications; the county had already received four applications and planned to populate the advisory board by the end of the week or the following week. County staff said the budget committee application period will close the following Monday and that the county will solicit candidates for multiple boards and committees as part of an ongoing reset.

Commissioners noted statutory constraints for some boards, such as the fair board, which staff said is regulated by state statute and requires particular appointment rules; staff said they would consult department directors — including the recreation director — before proposing any dissolutions or combinations of boards.
