Board directs advertisement of FY2026 proposed budget with no tax‑rate increase

County Administrator/Finance staff presented the Amherst County FY2026 proposed budget summary and emphasized that the proposal includes no change to tax rates and no premium increase passed to county employees for health insurance.
Staff highlighted a 3 percent cost‑of‑living adjustment for county employees, ambulance funding from the future fund, capital funding for the ongoing reassessment and second phase of courthouse HVAC, and a recommendation for level funding for Amherst County Public Schools after the school division revised its request.
County administration asked the board to direct staff to advertise the proposed county budget, the school budget, the solid waste budget and the tax rates for a public hearing on April 29, 2025, and to schedule budget adoption at the board’s first May meeting. A supervisor asked for confirmation that the school funding was level rather than a cut; administration and finance staff confirmed level funding and clarified carryforward procedures for school capital funds and the timing of audit reconciliation for carryover figures.
Supervisor Wade moved to direct staff to advertise the budget, school budget, solid waste budget and tax rates for a public hearing on April 29, 2025. The motion passed by voice vote.
