Klamath County library to host weekly OHSU street nursing pop-up outreach

The Klamath County Board of Commissioners on April 1 authorized the library director to sign a facilities-use agreement with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) so OHSU’s street nursing team can run a weekly pop-up outreach at the Klamath County Main Library.
County staff described the OHSU street nursing team as composed of nursing faculty and students who provide community-based health care and outreach to people experiencing homelessness. The team plans to meet clients at the side driveway of the library — not the main entrance — to offer food, socks and other basic supplies, build trust and connect people to additional health-care resources, county staff said. The library use agreement is intended to prevent disruption to regular library operations.
The board moved and approved an authorization for the library director to sign the facilities-use agreement; the item was recorded with no fiscal impact.
Library staff and commissioners noted the outreach aims to “meet people where they are” and emphasized the library’s role as a community access point for services. The agreement allows the outreach team to use the side driveway and includes a condition that library operations not be disturbed by the activity.
No county funding was allocated at the meeting for the OHSU outreach; the agreement covers facility use only.
