General Joseph Stein sworn in as member of State Transportation Board representing 7th Congressional District

General Joseph Stein was sworn in as a member of the State Transportation Board during the State Transportation Committee meeting Tuesday. The committee administered the oath of office for the seat representing the Seventh Congressional District.

Judge Bagley (presiding officer) and the committee led Stein through the oath, which includes a pledge to “discharge all the duties lawfully required of me as a member of the state transportation board.” The ceremony included the formal oath language and a second recitation emphasizing support for the constitutions of the United States and the State of Georgia.

After the oath, Stein thanked the committee and described the moment as “a true honor for me.” He said the tradition of having a respected official preside over an oath is meaningful and that he appreciated the committee’s willingness to hold the swearing-in during their meeting so others could attend. “My hope is, as I go throughout the next couple years, I represent you all well, and I try to live up to the standard that each and every one of you have set,” Stein said. He closed by saying, “I’m here to work, for you whenever you need.”

Committee members praised Stein’s record and character. One member said Stein endured criticism during his nomination process but “stood through it” and commended him for staying the course. Members and staff posed for photographs with Stein after the oath.

The committee recorded the swearing-in as part of its official meeting; several members noted Stein is a resident of Forsyth County and the surrounding area and cited his military resume during remarks.
