Holyoke police department to add handicap-accessible door buttons; work within weeks

At the March 27 meeting the commission received an update on accessible doors at the Holyoke police department.
Kelly Curran, the city ADA officer, said a mechanical problem with the doors was resolved by a local vendor (Holyoke Lock) and a second contractor will install the accessible push-button packages within roughly three weeks. Curran said the vendor mentioned a remote feature may be part of the installation.
Commission members asked whether electrical work was included in the quote; Curran said she would confirm whether the electrician’s work was part of the estimate. Members requested advance notice of the installation date so they can inspect and photograph the completed work.
The commission described the result as “mission accomplished” and planned to arrange a site visit and photos once the installation date is scheduled.
