Clear Creek County designates April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month

Megan read the resolution aloud; it emphasizes prevention, positive childhood experiences and strengthening families through supports such as home visiting and economic assistance. Human Services Director Sarah Casano described county efforts and said the county will promote protective factors and community education: "By strengthening families, we help reduce the risk of kids experiencing abuse or neglect in their home," Casano said.
Casano explained how reports are processed: callers use the statewide child-abuse hotline; referrals are recorded and screened by county staff using a risk-screening process, then routed to appropriate assessment tracks. She said about 35% of calls statewide meet criteria for an assessment and fewer than 1% of open assessments result in a child removal; most assessments focus on connecting families to services.
Commissioners and staff encouraged community members to participate in prevention activities: the county will observe Wear Blue Day on April 3 and will place pinwheels on the courthouse lawn at noon to raise awareness. Commissioner remarks included personal reflections from two commissioners who had family or foster-care experiences and encouraged community support for families.
The board moved, seconded and approved the resolution by voice vote.
