The Evansville Board of Parks Commission on March 5, 2025, authorized staff to seek grant funding to install three solar‑powered lighting fixtures on the Greenway between the Maryland and Delaware Street bridges near Lemassco Park.
Paul Bousman, deputy director of Evansville Parks and Recreation, said the lights would be broad‑spreading solar fixtures that “wouldn’t require trenching and electrical” and would improve illumination in an identified section of the Greenway. “The cost, estimate for this is about $23,000,” Bousman said, adding that the department is applying for grants to cover the project.
Bousman told the board that if grant applications are unsuccessful the department would evaluate neighborhood park improvement funding and other available resources and would return to the commission before using city funds. The commission approved the request to pursue grants by voice vote.
If funded, the fixtures would be permanent additions to the park and would be installed only after funding and any required approvals are secured.
