The Camden County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a three‑year memorandum of agreement (MOU) with the Camden School System to provide emergency transportation support using school buses for evacuation and sheltering operations.
County staff told the board the school system provides the most reliable locally available transportation resource; private carriers such as Coastal Regional Coaches are under existing state agreements that could make them unavailable in declared state emergencies. Staff said the MOU is intended to ensure local evacuation capacity in hurricanes and other incidents.
Staff noted the county has a contingent agreement with "Chris County, Georgia" as a potential shelter destination for evacuees and said the transportation MOU would enable execution of that evacuation plan if needed. The board approved the MOU on a motion, second and unanimous vote.
County staff said a defined registry of vulnerable residents exists for planned evacuations; the county will maintain that registry and communications plan and will provide transportation both for registered vulnerable residents and to additional residents as capacity allows during general population evacuations.
