Trustees discussed whether to draft a resolution to prohibit through-truck traffic on parts of Morris Road, Vintage Drive and sections of Tylersville during the Oct. 14 meeting.
The matter arose after a resident emailed the board reporting frequent truck traffic on Morris Road when exiting Talies Road; trustees said they have also received complaints about trucks on Vintage Drive and Tylersville. A trustee noted drivers and trucks were observed riding curbs and striking signage in a local roundabout.
Township staff said the law director told them the township has home-rule authority to adopt such a resolution and could enforce it. The board asked staff to draft a resolution for a future meeting and to provide additional enforcement details, including: how officers would determine whether a truck was making a legitimate delivery, what criteria would be used for exemptions, and whether counts or other data exist showing the number of heavy trucks using the roads today.
Trustees also discussed the practicality of enforcement in areas with schools and active deliveries; one resident speaker cautioned that restricting trucks on Morris Road could affect deliveries to three nearby schools. Board members requested staff to research truck counts and routes and to examine other cut-through residential roads countywide before bringing a draft resolution back for November discussion.
Ending: Staff will prepare a draft resolution and present additional data and enforcement criteria at a future meeting; no ordinance or resolution was adopted on Oct. 14.
