Airports coalition asks committee to revisit commercial air service program ahead of funding decisions

Devin Brubaker, airport director for Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport and president of the Wyoming Airports Coalition, asked the committee to revisit commercial air service across the state. Brubaker said a 2018 program produced “robust success” and supports over $1.5 billion in annual economic activity and more than 17,000 jobs statewide.
Brubaker said transportation and appropriations committees have also heard the request and that the Air Transportation Liaison Committee could be engaged; he said the coalition estimated two to four hours of interim committee time would suffice for education and discussion rather than the eight hours requested initially.
Chairmen and members said they would consider where to place the topic across committees and whether to leverage the existing air-transportation select body. No formal bill or appropriation was adopted during the hearing; Brubaker said an appropriations request for program continuation could follow after interim education and stakeholder outreach.
