Commissioner McCreery (listed in the meeting as a commissioner leading this work) said the town hall will be 6 to 8 p.m. April 10 at the CK Newsome Center and will outline the commission’s partnership work with EVSE to address school disciplinary disparities. “We got a Moving in Faith town hall instead of breakfast on the April 10, at 06:00, 6 to 8 at the, CK Newsome Center,” McCreery said.
McCreery told the commission the group previously sent 60 students back to their schools from AIS in December, and “only 2 have returned.” Commissioners described site visits to AIS and conversations with students and school staff, noting the commission’s aim to engage earlier with students to prevent placements in alternative schools.
Commissioner Moore reminded the commission that the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation is conducting a superintendent search and that a community-wide survey is open; Moore said the survey intake closes in mid-March and encouraged commissioners to complete it so community voices are represented in the search.
The commission did not adopt any formal resolutions or votes on the pipeline item at the meeting; the discussion centered on outreach, an upcoming town hall, school visits and partnerships with community groups.
