The Eagan City Council on March 4 closed a public hearing and approved certification of delinquent nuisance-abatement bills to Dakota County for collection with property taxes.
City staff told the council the city has 17 properties with delinquent false-alarm invoices totaling just over $5,200 and nine properties with delinquent nuisance-abatement invoices totaling just over $9,400. The council voted to approve the final assessment roll and authorize certification for collection.
City Administrator Miller explained that state and local code allow the city to collect unpaid nuisance-abatement and false-alarm charges by certifying them for collection with property taxes and that notices were sent to affected property owners and published in the legal newspaper ahead of the hearing. Finance Director Josh Spellman was available to answer questions, staff said; none were raised during the hearing.
Council member Hansen moved to close the public hearing and approve the final assessment roll for the delinquent nuisance-abatement bills and to authorize certification to Dakota County; the motion was seconded and carried without objection.
The vote finalized the city’s step to collect the identified balances through the county property-tax process. The council did not take additional actions beyond authorizing certification.
