At its March 13 meeting, the Evansville City Board of Public Works approved an encroachment and maintenance agreement permitting the University of Evansville to install and maintain specialized street signs on existing traffic poles and other poles in the city right-of-way near the university campus. Approval was conditioned on modifying the agreement’s exhibit to show the University of Evansville seal instead of the university logo.
City staff said the city will be named as an additional insured on the university’s insurance for the signs. City staff reported they reviewed the university’s shop drawings and approved them, but a post-review found the submitted artwork used the university logo rather than the seal required by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
A city representative said he contacted Mike Schottmeyer, who the record identifies as representing the University of Evansville, and recommended the board approve the encroachment agreement provided the exhibit is modified to display the U of E seal. A motion to approve the agreement with that condition was made and seconded; the board approved by voice vote.
The city clerk or staff also had a separate resolution to sign in support of the agreement; the resolution will be held with the agreement until the exhibit artwork is adjusted and the university’s representative and the city finalize the paperwork.
