Council commits $12 million-plus to Fourth Ward infrastructure projects

Fourth Ward Council member Connor Wood said at the State of the City event that the council approved a multi-year commitment of $12,005,088.40 for infrastructure work on the Northwest side of Jackson.
Wood listed planned investments as street, water main, bridge and traffic-signal work in his ward and named specific blocks and corridors covered by the allocation: Jefferson and Adams between Lansing and Blackstone; Backus between Monroe and Clinton; Bennett between Clinton and North; Bush north of Hallett; and North between Lincoln and Lansing. "These are not roads that are in very good shape right now, and these are not neighborhoods that have benefited from a lot of investment," Wood said.
Wood also noted local water-main replacement on Grinnell between Norfolk and Wildwood and said the projects aim to deliver safe water and sewer services to affected homes. He described the commitment as part of a long-term plan for infrastructure investments and said these streets have historically suffered neglect.
No formal vote record was announced during the State of the City remarks; Wood presented the allocation as a council commitment and described planned work. City staff and relevant departments will determine schedules, contracting and construction phasing through the capital program process.
