The Board of Public Safety on Feb. 26 approved an amendment to the city's agreement with Garmon Construction for renovation work at Fire Station 16 that reduces the contract retainage from 10% to 5%.
City staff said the amendment adjusts only the retainage percentage and that the remainder of the contract remains unchanged. The staff report noted the change aligns with the city's internal policy and conforms with the statutory review the city performed. "The adjustment was to the amount of retainage...we had to lower the initial amount with 10%. We're lowering that to 5%, which is in line with our internal policy," a city staff member said. The amendment was executed by the contractor and approved by the city's internal reviewer (identified in the meeting as "Lehi").
The contract concerns renovation and bunker modifications at Station 16 to accommodate additional apparatus; staff said the original agreement was approved late last year and that the amendment simply changes retainage. The board voted to approve the amendment.
The board recorded the vote as unanimous; staff said no additional budget increase or change in scope accompanied the amendment.
