County commissioners approve resolution to transfer property for NIPSCO infrastructure upgrades

The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners on March 25 approved Resolution R3C20-25 to begin the process of transferring county-owned property at 56150 Larison Boulevard to NIPSCO and to permit an easement on 56120 Larison Boulevard for utility work at the Indiana Enterprise Center.
Bill Shaleo, economic development director for the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Growth, told commissioners the county acquired the property in 2023 ‘‘as we knew that it would be needed for public infrastructure improvements or other public improvements.’’ He said the action is tied to NIPSCOplans to upgrade both power and gas services for development at the Indiana Enterprise Center.
The resolution, as presented, authorizes the county to begin the process to transfer the parcel at 56150 Larison Boulevard to NIPSCO and contemplates an easement on the adjacent parcel at 56120 Larison Boulevard that NIPSCO will seek. No sale price or closing timetable was specified during the meeting.
A motion to approve Resolution R3C20-25 was called, seconded and approved. Commissioner Morton and Commissioner Hayden each voted "Aye;" the motion carried.
The resolution was introduced without extended public debate or questions and will move forward to the next steps required for property transfer and easement execution at the county and Redevelopment Commission levels.
