Wilson SD to Renew Champions/KinderCare Childcare Contract, Board Approves Summer 'Champ Camp'

Doctor Stacy Stout, presenting to the board, said Champions has operated before- and after-school care for Wilson elementary students and that the program serves about 245 families. She described program features, including a curriculum that extends learning beyond the school day and family engagement events the program runs with district staff. "Champions has appealed to us for the opportunity to run what they call Champ Camp," Stout said, summarizing the summer proposal.
The board packet and Stout's slides noted that the summer Champ Camp would be an extended-day program, running roughly 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., about 10 weeks, and offering field-trip opportunities. Stout and board members said Champions will accept subsidized students and help families connect to subsidy programs, and that Champions offers discounts for district employees and military families.
Board members voiced support. One member said the summer pricing was competitive compared with private camps and expressed hope Champions would enroll currently enrolled families before opening to broader registration. Stout said enrollment outreach to current families would begin soon if the board approved the contract.
The board voted on teaching-and-learning item 14.2 to approve "an agreement with Kinder Care Learning Companies for before and after school childcare services for the 2025–26 school year and a summer Champions Champ Camp." Mr. McCree moved the motion; Mr. Schneider seconded. A roll call showed nine yes, zero no; the motion carried.
