Kanosh seeks bids for cemetery and park weed control; caretaker contract to be rebid

Kanosh Town is accepting bids for noxious weed control in the town cemetery and park and will re‑advertise the seasonal cemetery/park caretaker position after the incumbent requested a fee increase.

Deborah Willoughby of Blue Pine Mountain Crest addressed the council and said she can provide spraying and turf programs (pre‑emergent, broadleaf control and sterilization for gravel areas). She provided estimates based on parcel sizes and described equipment and product choices; she recommended selective sterilization in rock/gravel areas but opposed blanket sterilization along street strips where trees exist. The council agreed to ask staff to post a bid request for cemetery and park weed control and to accept bids by the next council meeting so the council can award a contract in April.

The council also discussed the existing cemetery/caretaker contract. Incumbent Fernando (surname not provided) told the council he wants to continue but asked to increase his payment from $3,800 to $4,000. Council members said they prefer to solicit competitive bids given the requested price increase and the town’s broader need for seasonal help to support meter installs, restrooms/park maintenance and other public works duties. The council asked staff to advertise and said they may interview candidates and make an award at the next meeting.

Council members emphasized that any contract award will be a public, bid‑based decision and noted they will seek multiple bids per procurement rules. No contract award was made at the meeting.
