Advisory committee updates site plan: trails, access and phased cemetery development discussed

Project leads reported to the Snyderville Basin Cemetery District on preliminary site planning and design considerations for a future cemetery site, focusing on trail alignments, access and phased construction.

Pete and other advisory members said they planned another advisory committee meeting in coming weeks and described work with Basin Recreation representatives to evaluate single-track mountain-bike trail alignments that run through or along the parcel under consideration. Ferris, a Basin Recreation representative, agreed to perform an on-site evaluation to determine whether the single-track trail could remain in place or would need to move outside the cemetery boundary; the rec district expressed caution about transferring currently managed open space to the cemetery district.

Design options under study include a primary access road with a roundabout and a network of narrower secondary gravel roads to reach different cemetery sections. Committee members said they were leaning away from a large paved parking lot because of winter plowing, visual impacts and cost; instead they discussed designing internal circulation to allow roadside parking or pullouts for services and visitors.

Advisory members emphasized phased infrastructure: excavating limited initial areas to install preset vaults and then expanding in stages rather than immediately building vault fields across the whole property. Board members flagged winter maintenance, single-track trail continuity, and jurisdictional boundary clarity as outstanding issues to resolve before finalizing the first-phase plan.

The advisory team also noted the potential to use nearby public parking or shuttle services for larger events, and said they will continue stakeholder outreach with Basin Recreation, trail managers and county planning staff.
