Board supports Piano 2 pilot using Parkside piano lab; future equipment to be budgeted

Presenter Doctor Stauffer said the course builds on an existing Piano 1/general music approach used at Parkside and would use the school's piano lab of 10 instruments, so the pilot carries no immediate new textbook or equipment cost. Stauffer said the space was formerly a health room adjacent to the chorus room and that, if the program scales to additional schools, the district would purchase classroom piano sets from the general fund equipment budget rather than performance pianos.
Board members asked whether keyboards were available for home use; staff said elementary schools use small classroom keyboards but those are not sent home with students. The board gave consensus to move the pilot forward; the item was presented for agreement rather than a formal roll-call vote.
Next steps: staff will run the pilot at Parkside and report back on enrollment and equipment needs for any expansion.
