Commissioners approve $454,270 state reallocation for Armory site pavilion in Prince Frederick

Director Oberg of the Department of Economic Development told commissioners the Rural Maryland Economic Development Fund — administered to the Tri‑County Council for Southern Maryland by the Maryland Department of Commerce — reallocated state funds to successful projects, and Calvert County’s Armory site was approved to receive an additional $454,270.67. The money will support additions to the project design, including an ice rink and enhancements to the pavilion’s commercial kitchen to support markets and events.
The public hearing had no speakers in person, and the board closed the record before voting to approve budget amendment BA 2025‑000310. After the vote, John Hartline, executive director of the Tri‑County Council for Southern Maryland, presented the county with the reallocated funds and noted the Tri‑County Council had reallocated funds from projects that could not proceed to those that had met the criteria.
Commissioners and staff said the expanded amenities are intended to increase downtown activity and provide a flexible space for community events, farmers markets and entertainment. Oberg and Tri‑County Council remarks placed the total project budget at roughly $2.06 million before the newly allocated funds.
Ending: Department of Economic Development staff will proceed with updating project budgets and next steps for permitting and procurement under the amended CIP line item.
