The Reston Association Board of Directors approved leadership appointments to the Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) during an executive session and confirmed the votes in open session.
After volunteer interviews earlier in the meeting, the board voted to appoint Sharika Sharar as EAC chair. The board also approved Thomas Fried and Shirley Thomas as co‑vice chairs. The motions were made and seconded in open session following the executive session; the board recorded the approvals as unanimous.
Applicants had addressed the board earlier in the meeting during volunteer interviews. Sharika Sharar said she had served on the EAC since 2019 and as chair since 2023 and was seeking a final term; Thomas Fried (appearing by video) said he had served on the committee for months and volunteered to help as co‑vice chair.
Why it matters: The EAC advises the association on environmental and sustainability matters; the new leadership will guide committee work on priorities identified in the association’s strategic plan and environmental initiatives.
What’s next: The board will notify the appointees and post the committee leadership changes as required by association policy.
