Monongalia County amends dog warden agreements after call-count correction

The Monongalia County Commission voted Sept. 24, 2025, to amend intergovernmental agreements for dog warden services with several municipalities for the period Oct. 1, 2025, through Sept. 30, 2026.
County staff told the commission that earlier versions of the agreements were calculated using a list that recorded every animal taken on every call, but the agreements are billed based on calls rather than animals. Staff corrected the counts and will issue revised agreements reflecting call totals.
The corrected call counts given during the meeting were Granville, 17 calls; Morgantown, 242 calls; Star City, 17 calls; and Westover, 27 calls. Mayor Lewis was credited in the meeting for pointing out the discrepancy.
A motion to amend the agreements was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. The county indicated it will send the revised agreements to the municipalities.
Commissioners also discussed a future change to the pricing structure for multiple animals on a single call; staff said they will return next year with a proposal to differentiate fees for single-animal versus multi-animal calls.
The meeting record did not include a roll-call vote or specific new fee rates; the vote approved only the corrected agreements and the distribution of revised contracts to municipalities.
