City staff notified the council that a long-serving utility clerk has set a planned retirement date for approximately April of next year, and that another employee recently submitted two weeks’ notice.
Council members discussed the workload in court and justice functions and noted the potential need for a paralegal or assistant to offload administrative tasks. Staff said Tammy (a permit technician) has taken on more administrative work and was being used increasingly for document handling; council members suggested Tammy could be a candidate for a paralegal role if the position were tailored and office space provided for sensitive paperwork.
No formal hiring decision was made. Council asked staff to evaluate the paralegal position description, office-space needs and whether a second support position for permit services would be needed; staff also noted potential opportunities to recruit from nearby jurisdictions or bring in experienced administrative staff if needed.
