The Castle Dale City Council on March 13 voted unanimously to award $100 each to two local students selected to attend ALA Girls State at Harvard University.
Lainie Woodson and Izzy Turner spoke during the public-comment portion of the meeting about the educational benefits of the program. Woodson and Turner said attending would bolster future scholarship applications and provide civic education and networking with peers from across the state.
Councilmembers agreed to the contribution and asked the students to present a short report to the council after the program. The council recorded unanimous approval with all members present voting in favor.
The contribution was presented as a one-time discretionary payment to help cover costs; no additional budgetary details were provided during the meeting.
The students and council agreed the students would return to report on the experience after the session at Harvard.
